FFC President Vows to Step Down if Team Fails to Reach Semi-finals

PHNOM PENH: CAMSOC Vice Chairman Sao Sokha said he would step down as president of the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) if the Cambodian U-22 men's football team does not reach the semi-finals of the SEA Games.

Sao Sokha posted on social media after Tuesday night’s match against the Philippines, which ended with a 1-1 draw. In his post he said he sacrificed everything for over ten years in an effort to honor the Cambodian nation through football. He went on to claim responsibility for the team’s performance.

His message read, "If the U-22 men's football team cannot advance to the semi-finals, I take responsibility as the President of the Football Federation of Cambodia and will resign my position immediately."

The Vice President of the National Committee of CAMSOC stated that if this happens, he will ask the Executive Committee of the FFC and the General Secretariat to elect a new president of the organization.

Sokha apologized to football fans for the team’s underwhelming performance this year, saying that he is incapable of leading the sport successfully.

"Honor is linked to responsibility," he said.
